The Bowen Technique
What is the Bowen Technique?
The Bowen Technique is a highly effective but gentle therapy suitable for everyone. The Bowen technique usually results in the relief of many specifics injuries and other health problems, both acute and chronic. It does it so holistically, by using the body’s innate healing mechanism. The practitioner delivers signals to the nervous system at specific locations on the muscles ligaments and tendons or nerves.
How does it work?
There are many theory about the physiological mechanism by which the Bowen technique brings about the famous result for which it is famous for. The Bowen moves and procedures may activate the following mechanism:
Fascia: Each Bowen moves is done at the level of the superficial fascia and affect the relationship between the fascia and the nerve, muscle and tendons being mobilised.
Meridians: Most moves overlap acupuncture points and some actually cross two or three acupuncture meridians at once
Lymphatic: Some Bowen moves activate draining of the lymphatic system stimulating the immune system.

What does a Bowen session involve?
Bowen session generally last from 15 minutes to 1 hour. The moves are gentle but purposeful and can be done through light clothing if the client prefers. The client usually lies on a massage table. A session involves one or more procedure each of which consist of several set of “moves”. Between each set of moves the practitioner pauses for as many minutes as are needed for the client’s body to begin responding. After the nervous system begins to adjust the tension level in the muscles, the client is ready for the next set of moves.
